

Endangered Species Anthology Submission Guidelines
Plymouth Writer’s Group is a writing group based in Plymouth, UK. We have published several anthologies previously, and after taking a few years’ break, we are pleased to announce our next anthology: The Last Call – An Endangered Species Anthology.
This anthology will give voices to Endangered Species that have none and focuses on their stories and to raise awareness to their plights. We are not a publisher or a vanity press; we will not ask for payment for your submission. This anthology will be published in ebook and paperback on Amazon.
Please carefully read the below guidelines before submitting your story to us. Any that do not match our submission guidelines will be rejected.
Submissions open 14th February 2026 06:00 BST.
Submissions close 14th May 2026 06:00 GMT.
What we’re looking for:
- One short story of 2500-4000 words OR one-three poems totalling no more than three pages total.
- The theme is Endangered Species. This includes Flora and Fauna. A good starting point would be to pick a species from this website: https://awionline.org/content/list-endangered-species. Pick one species only from this list. The following species have been claimed by PWG members, so we will not accept any stories about them:
- Snow Leopard.
- Koala.
- Orangutan.
- Geoffroy’s Spider Monkey.
- Komodo Dragon.
- Mountain Gorilla.
- Brazil Nut Tree.
- Blue Whale.
- Suffolk Punch.
- Tadpole Shrimp.
- Cheetah.
- We are looking for a broad range of stories in a variety of genres.
- All submissions must be written in English.
We will NOT accept under any circumstances:
- AI generated material.
- Fanfiction or stories based on an existing IP.
- Reprints.
- Simultaneous submissions.
- Bestiality.
- Sexual violence.
- Paedophilia.
- Necrophilia.
- Incest.
- Extreme content for shock value.
- Body horror or excessive gore.
- Furry fiction.
- Erotica.
How to submit:
- Submissions are open for UK and international writers who are 16+.
- Your submission must be .doc or .docx only.
- All submission emails should be directed to pwg.anthology@gmail.com with the subject line in the following format: ANTHOLOGY NAME – STORY TITLE – AUTHOR NAME
- Your email needs to include the following:
- Your name.
- Your pen name (if you use one).
- The title of your story.
- The word count of your story.
- Maximum 50 words author bio.
- Maximum of two links (website, social media etc.)
- Which Endangered Species you have chosen to write about.
Document formatting:
- Your submission needs to be in the following format:
- Times New Roman, 12pt font.
- 1.5 line spacing.
- Standard margins.
- All scene breaks should be marked with ***.
- No tabs.
- Pages must be numbered in the footer of your document.
- Your document header should include your name and the name of your story.
Terms:
- We will aim to read each story and confirm its status in the anthology within four months of the deadline.
- Those with an accepted submission will get one free paperback copy of the anthology with the option of ordering more copies at a discounted price.
- Plymouth Writer’s Group will retain First Worldwide Publishing Rights for twelve months following publication. After this period, all rights revert to the author, but the story will remain in the anthology indefinitely.
