John Parsons

John comes from the historic town of Topsham in south-east Devon and now lives in Plymouth. His main interests are leading walks on Dartmoor, photography, modern jazz and humanitarian work in developing countries.
His photographic endeavours reached their pinnacle in 1972 when he submitted a ‘Landscape’ portfolio to the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and was enrolled as a Licentiate.
Starting in the days of steam locomotives, John’s long career on the railway led him to drive High Speed Trains on the Penzance to Paddington route for Great Western.
Over a hundred of his illustrated articles and stories from distant parts of the globe have been published on websites and in papers to promote the work of humanitarian organisations. His articles also featured in national magazines such as The Great Outdoors, Trail, and Bird Watching. ‘In addition,’ he stated, ‘my travel stories of tracking gorillas and a stand-off with elephants were printed in the Western Morning News and The Plymouth Herald.’
John is currently writing a series of 250 word travel stories for a church magazine.
